This screen gives you three choices for accessing RecordSearch. These choices are:
If you login as a guest you can begin searching immediately. You can search in a variety of ways but you will not be able; to save preferred options for future searching sessions; to retrieve the results of your searches as sets in future searches; or to order records for delivery to the reading room.
If you login as a new researcher you will be asked to provide some contact details and you will receive a Login name and Readerís ticket number. When you visit a reading room the readerís ticket number is attached to your Readerís ticket as a barcode. You do not need to remember your Readerís ticket number.
You will then be prompted to enter a secret Password. The Login name and Password are used to login to future search sessions. You need to remember the Login name and Password. If you do forget them you can ask the reference officer on duty or ask for assistance via email and your password will be reset.
Once you register you can begin searching immediately. You can search in a variety of ways and you will be able to save your preferred options for future searching sessions. You will also be able to retrieve the results of your searches as sets and include those sets in future searches; and you will be able to order records for delivery to the reading room.
If you have already registered as a new researcher, choose this option to login to RecordSearch . You will be asked to type in your Login name and Password before you start searching. You will also have the opportunity to update your contact information if necessary.
Researchers who registered prior to 8 October 2001 have been able to use their readerís ticket number (also known as PIN) as the Password. If you have been using the Readerís ticket number as the Password, when you next attempt to login you will receive a message that your Password has expired and you must enter a new one. You must enter a password consisting of six characters, of which at least one must be a number. From then on you must use your Login name and this new password to login to RecordSearch.
Your Readerís ticket number will be attached to your readerís ticket as a barcode when you next visit a reading room; you do not need to remember the readerís ticket number.
