Australian Federal Government employee records
In most cases, records about Australian Federal Government employees are not retained permanently by the National Archives. Surviving personnel records of former public servants will generally be found in the records of the department in which they last worked, or its successor department. These cover very senior officers or those who would not yet be 75 years old. However, you can use the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette or the permanent staff list (1903-1951) and the seniority list (from 1956) to trace careers.
